It is thought that the ney was first used by Summerians beginning from B.C. 5000, the oldest information about the instrument remaining from B.C. 2800-3000 and today it is exhibited in the University Of Philadelphia in U.S.A. The instrument was probably played in religious ceremonies. When Turkish became Muslim, they began to use it. After 13'th century, it was a symbol of the Islamic mystical music. Great poet and saint Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi played an important role tu make the instrument a symbol.
